As we approach the final days before all votes must be cast and ballots filled, I wanted to share an article that I read in The Northeast Georgian this week. It brings up confusion around another claim that was made by my opponent in this election, and it also brings up a great deal of concern from the community about the current representation we have in the House. “A state representative running for re-election in the May 22 primary has gone quiet after multiple officials called him out.
At its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, the Hospital Authority of Habersham County discussed a recent political mailer from District 28 State Rep. Dan Gasaway, which stated – among other things – “There is a plan in place to give Habersham County Hospital to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for free, meaning Habersham County would receive no money for the hospital, but would still be saddled with the $38 million … debt, which ultimately will fall on the backs of Habersham County property taxpayers. …”
The strike was Gasaway’s latest in the campaign, after accusing the Habersham County Commission and hospital authority of allowing an “illegal” appointment to the authority, and Habersham County School officials of malfeasance with opponent Chris Erwin and Erwin’s employer. However, The Northeast Georgian has disproved many of Gasaway’s claims, for which he’s declined repeatedly to provide evidence.”
